Disadvantages: the cost !!  

This product is somewhere between a foundation and a primer, whilst it doesn’t have colour to it, it does instantly improve your skin, making it a better base for foundation, or it can be used on its own. The balm will set you back a massive £22.50, for a tiny 30ml bottle, however when it was first released, it was on promotion, and I got my bottle for free, otherwise I would never have tried it!! It does work well as a primer, especially after a long day and going on a night out, it gives the face a much needed “lift”. I think I’m probably too young to appreciate this product’s full effects, the difference was much more noticeable on my mum. Worn on its own, it lights up the skin, but it can appear a little shiny, so I would advise caution, less is definitely more. The product can be a little difficult to use. It comes out the bottle as a thick cream which is sort of peachy in colour, but it doesn’t show up on the skin. However you shouldn’t rub it in, as this can cause your face to have a strange texture, sort of like drying glue. Instead you should dab it on, and this does take some practise. I would recommend leaving the face for around five minutes before applying any products on top of it. The results of this product vary from person to person, so I would suggest trying before you buy if at all possible(the staff at the counter will be happy to help). When putting a foundation over the top, the results are more subtle, but it does provide a better, smoother coverage, and the foundation tends to last longer. It could also be used instead of liquid under a powder foundation, to help create a more natural look. Clarins says the product can also be used as a face mask, but I have never tried this, as it seems like it would be very expensive for the purpose, however, using the product regularly does seem to improve my skin, so I am sure a face mask would have good effects. Until very recently I’d never tried a single Clarin’s product and until even more recently I didn’t believe that beauty products really could work miracles. So what has caused the cynic in me to disappear? My in laws gave me a birthday present that is a pretty little pink box containing a number of Clarin’s trial size products. It was in this little box that my miracle beauty product lurked, untried and untested by myself until about two weeks ago, largely because I hadn’t bothered to read the leaflet and wasn’t quite sure what it was for. I am, of course, talking about Clarin’s “Baume Beaute Éclair” or more commonly known as “Beauty-Flash Balm” (BFB). Then a couple of weeks ago I was at a two day work conference and the overnight stay resulted in some pretty serious drinking with some pretty stunning hangovers and an almighty lack of sleep. The following day one of my friends looked gorgeous, totally radiant, fresh, revitalised and youthful despite the antics that she’d engaged in the previous evening. I asked her how she managed to look so fantastic and she put it down to her “miracle beauty product” Clarin’s Beauty-Flash Balm. The name rang some bells in my hung-over stupor and on returning home I investigated the contents of the pink box and lo and behold discovered a 15ml version of the product in question and resolved to try it out at the earliest possible opportunity. The manufacturer’s claim that the BFB will tighten the skin, reduce wrinkles and lines and lend make up an exceptional radiance. It is also claimed to be vitalising and nourishing and if used regularly to actually strengthen the structure of the skin thus making skin appear younger. This summary includes some pretty “big” claims and I was interested to see if the product lived up to my, by now, fairly high expectations! The cream itself is a flesh colour with a consistency that is somewhere between a thick cream and a lotion. It feels very light on the skin and there is a slightly detectable perfume that is not over powering. Despite trying I’m finding it difficult to recognise the smell but I would say that it is a little sweet and subtly flowery. Instructions for application are initially confusing because you are told to “apply without massaging a very thin layer all over the face including eye contour area”. Have you ever tried to put a lotion/cream on your face without rubbing it in? It certainly provided me with a bit of a dilemma. In the end I dabbed a little on the three fingers of each hand and kind of smeared it across my face lightly. The product is very light and I’m not sure if it kind of “sits” there or whether it’s absorbed into the skin but it certainly feels good. Even I have to admit that the results are instantaneous. The first time I used it I had a cold and was not feeling 100% at all, I looked a bit pale and grey and tired yet immediately after applying this I couldn’t believe how “well” I looked. My skin was visibly firmer, the lines around my 41 year old eyes and 41 year old mouth definitely seemed less obvious and my skin did indeed have a relatively “youthful radiance” about it and even appeared slightly “sparkly” without appearing to be greasy. I also have intensely dry skin and I was concerned that something that appeared to “sit” on the skin might dry it out even more, but you do use this after moisturising and Clarin’s recommend that you allow ten minutes after moisturising before you apply BFB, presumably to allow the moisturiser to work and be absorbed fully first. Any concerns that I had proved to be unfounded and the first couple of times I used it I turned into someone who was mirror mad because I just couldn’t believe the amazing results or just how long they lasted. I was also interested in the claim that this product would lend my makeup “exceptional radiance” but I have to tell you that it is completely true. Applying make up on top of BFB my foundation looked smoother and my skin remained looking “clean and clear”. Eye shadow, blusher, lipstick and mascara all looked equally as good and if anything this product helped with “staying power” because my make up looked and felt fresher a lot longer. The major disadvantage to this product is unsurprisingly price. A standard size for this product is 50ml and this retails on average around £22.50. However, the product is so light and easily applied that a 15ml trial size tube has lasted me about a month using it 2-3 times a week and I still have plenty left. However, I am now a total convert to this miracle beauty product so much so that I would if I had to pay full price willingly to obtain such fantastic results. There is another way to use this product and it sounds great if your skin is really in need of a boost but I haven’t yet tried using it in this way yet. For a deep beauty treatment a thick layer of this product can be applied to the skin and left for 10-15 minutes like a face mask and then removed. I’m so satisfied with the results from using 2-3 times a week that I haven’t felt the need to use it as a face mask as yet, but perhaps might be tempted in the event of another heavy drinking conference session! I tried to find out a little more about the ingredients but most of it is meaningless to me – e.g. “symbiotic association of biological and vegetal extracts ….” So I won’t go into detail here. What I did discover though is that BFB does contain witch hazel and camomile so this might explain the subtle flowery perfume that I described earlier. It also contains olive and rice! So I’m now a Clarin’s BFB convert. It really does work miracles, I love the effect it has on my skin and I really do feel it gives my skin an instant boost, reduces the visibility of finer lines and wrinkles and provides the impression of “youthful radiance”.  I love it; it’s definitely one of my “essential” beauty items and believe me there are not many of them. I recommend you try it if you haven’t done so already, it’s one of the best beauty products I’ve ever discovered

** The way it works is by creating a light film over the skin that tightens a little as it dries. So you won’t notice as much effect from it if your skin is already young and taut.I used to work on the Clarins counter when I was 19 and I didn’t “get it” then. I certainly get it now :chuckle:I seem to remember reading somewhere that you can mix it with your foundation, anyone know for sure???:Yes you can, mix it about 50/50 in your palm then apply it as normal.Alternatively put it over your moisturiser or sunscreen, then apply your foundation straight away (while Beauty Flash is still damp).

** It’s all in the application with beauty Flash, you’ve gotta squeeze some out, spread it across your fingers and press it into the skin, no rubbing.
