Basics of Skin Care

The most important thing you can do to preserve the health and look of your skin is to take care of it every day not exposing it to unnecessary damaging factors. Most of the times the signs of skin aging are the result of wrong skin care practices ( or non-existent skin care ).

The best thing you can do to preserve your skin is to avoid exposing it to unnecessary stress and damaging factors: this will help you build a solid and healthy basement for anti aging treatments.

Anti aging treatments applied on a healthy skin will bring excellent results, far better than what you could expect applying the same treatments on a not well maintained skin.

Bear in mind that the skin, despite it might look a very simply part of our body, is very complicated. Skin damages aren’t always visible: skin damages don’t necessarily appear like infections or irritations. Skin damage is often unnoticeable with the naked eye.

Hot Water

Despite you feel a wonderful sensation during a hot shower, it hurts your skin. This doesn’t mean you have to use cold water, but just don’t make it too hot.

Moreover, for a better skin care, you shouldn’t take more than a shower a day with warm water.

Protection from the Sun

Most people know that sunrays and tanning beds aren’t good for skin aging and skin cancer. Remember that sun damage is mostly irreversible and that a lot of sunscreens don’t offer enough protection against the sun.

Makeup

The eye area is one of the most subject to skin aging as well as one of the areas where the application of makeup products is consistent. Most makeup products, specially those with long lasting effects, contain skin irritants; moreover additional irritants are required to remove them.

Soap

You shoul carefully choose the soap you use: not all the soaps are the same, they differ in the substances they’re composed of, and these substances have a relevant effect on your skin.

Ionic soaps have a worst impact on your skin. You should try to replace these detergents with equivalent non ionic soaps.

Cleansing

The skin is protected by sebum. Excessive cleansing may lead to skin sensitivity, dryness or irritation because you risk to remove too much sebum and leave the skin unprotected.

Use alcohol based cleansers only if your skin is very oily.

Exfoliating

New skin cells are created in the skin’s lower layer, the dermis. Over time, cells migrate to the surface of the skin and in roughly 30 days they die. Exfoliation removes the outer layer to reveal the newer skin cells beneath. This shedding of the outer layer unclogs pores, keeps skin clean, and helps reduce acne breakouts. Exfoliation should always be done after cleansing the skin. It is very easy to overly exfoliate your skin, which dries and irritates.

Skin Inflammation

Our body reacts to abrasions, burns and infections with inflammation. Usually inflammation is not the cause but the effect of something. Acne is by far the most frequent skin inflammation. We all have dealt with it at least once. But there’s a huge variety of skin inflammation: often treatments to cure inflammation can damage our skin. Since we all react slightly differently to treatments you should make sure that your reaction to a treatment isn’t causing you severe skin damage.

This is a quick and generic introduction to skin care that should give you an idea of what you need to do to ensure you have a healthy skin along with basic rules to prevent skin aging
