Starting an exercise program

5 June 2009 214 views No Comment

Starting an exercise program might be the best choice in your life: reading around and gathering information as you are presumably doing is a sign that you’re really intentioned to do it.

The first thing you must absolutely do is to go to your doctor and have a complete check up: just tell your doctor that you’re planning to start exercising and you want to know if you can do it and if you have to pay particular attention to something: he will know what kinds of checks are necessary.
Once you have your doctor’s OK you can start your journey towards a healthy life.
Remember that starting to exercise and continuing to do it is by far the hardest part of the entire thing.
Once you commit to following some kind of fitness program or routine it becomes part of your life and you’ll want to get the most out of the time you spend exercising.

Start with few exercise: start with something you know you can easily do like 20-30 minutes of cardio two or three times per week: if you can, do something more, but remember that it’s more important to do your exercise regularly than run 40 minutes one day and skip the next one.

Being constant is one of the hardest parts in your training.
Try to find a friend or a small group: knowing that someone is waiting for you for the wednesday run will keep you motivated and force you to go even when you would opt for the couch.

Be realistic: schedule your workouts when you know you’ll be able to to do them.
Don’t just say ‘this week I’l go running twice’ because you know it’s not going to happen.
Some prefer exercising in the morning before going to work, some after work etc: we all are different, you know yourself: choose days and times and stick to your schedule.
